- This update is part of the FRONTIERS residency at the Carlos Simon Foundation. In her final month, Marit Bonne reflects on the release of the first podcast episode, the lessons learned throughout the residency and her experience exploring women’s health research in Valencia.

¡Hola! Welcome to the fourth and final update of my residency. I am currently writing this in a café and almost on my way to the airport.
This last month went the fastest of all the months I have been here. I have enjoyed the last touristy things of Valencia, such as the Cathedral and the Iglesia de San Salvador y San Nicolas (fun fact: in the Netherlands, San Nicolas – Sinterklaas – comes every December through the chimney to bring presents to kids. He rides a white horse on the roof and lives in Spain the rest of the year).
I have gone to the rocódromo, ate my last bocadillos, went out for dinner and drinks and walked around the city for the last time. What a time I’ve had here!
But of course, the last month meant a lot of hard work! I wrote voiceovers for the last episodes, recorded them, had my last interviews with scientists here and went full into the edit. The first episode was released this Saturday! I try to be happy about it, but the perfectionist in me finds it hard. But I have surely learned a lot. For instance, the room in which you record is pivotal to good audio quality, the transcription tool was a lifesaver and voiceovers do really matter a lot!
I already have a 100 things I would do differently when I would make and release another podcastseries, but that was also the point of this residency: to learn and develop myself professionally and to get to know all the research & researchers here!
I have fallen in love with Spain and Valencia and I don’t know when, but I’ll definitely be back someday. Thank you all for making this time so wonderful! You know where to find me when you have cool research, a science communication question or you are in the Netherlands :))
Hope to see you again!
Marit
