Our latest study, published in Fertility and Sterility, examined whether Fusobacterium nucleatum is present in the eutopic endometrium of women with endometriosis. Analyzing 92 samples from patients with minimal, mild, moderate and severe disease, the research found no significant differences compared to women without endometriosis.
These results indicate that Fusobacterium is unlikely to serve as a reliable biomarker for this condition and reinforce the need for well-designed microbiome studies in gynecological disorders.
This work was carried out through a collaboration between the Carlos Simon Foundation (Spain) and Penn Medicine (USA).
