The Carlos Simon Foundation is excited to announce its participation in the PREMIC project (PROMETEO CIPROM/2022/41), which has been funded with €600,000 by the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science, and Digital Society of the Generalitat Valenciana. This innovative initiative aims to investigate the infectious origins of preeclampsia (PE), a severe pregnancy disorder that affects approximately 8% of first-time pregnancies and poses significant risks to both mothers and their babies.
The project will run from 2023 to 2026 and seeks to identify how past infections may elevate the risk of PE, leading to damage in the endometrium and vascular system. By understanding these mechanisms, the research has the potential to change the way we comprehend, prevent, and treat this life-threatening condition.
PREMIC is a collaborative effort that includes the University of Valencia, the Carlos Simon Foundation, INCLIVA, La Fe Hospital, and the Clinical University Hospital of Valencia. The research team is spearheaded by distinguished experts, including Professor Carlos Simon, Dr. Tamara Garrido, and Dr. Inmaculada Moreno.
